SwiftRec is a lightweight, free screen recorder that captures clean MP4 video without watermarks, accounts, or system clutter. Record your screen, add microphone or system audio, and save locally — all from a single hotkey.
Most free recorders either watermark your output, demand a login, or clutter your screen with overlays while you're recording. SwiftRec does none of that. You extract a single folder, press a hotkey, and get a clean MP4 ready for YouTube, documentation, or your portfolio.
The built-in Windows tools like Xbox Game Bar work fine for quick clips, but they skip File Explorer windows, won't let you capture a specific region, and force you through menus every time. SwiftRec launches in seconds and remembers your last settings.
Whether you're making tutorials, bug reports, or gameplay clips, you control exactly what gets recorded: full screen, a single window, a freehand region, or one specific monitor. Both your microphone and system audio go into the same file, no post-processing needed.
SwiftRec outputs to MP4 (H.264), the format every platform accepts. If you need an animated GIF for a bug ticket or Slack thread, toggle that instead — one click.
Add a webcam bubble to your capture for tutorials or reaction videos. Turn on mouse-click and keystroke indicators so viewers see every input you make. Both features are optional and toggle from the toolbar.
The app is tiny and portable. Run it from your desktop, a USB stick, or any folder you own. No background services, no registry keys scattered across Windows, no .NET bloat beyond the Framework version already on your system.
Global hotkeys mean you stay in your game, spreadsheet, or video editor. The recording controls work even when another window is focused. Pause mid-clip, resume later, then stop and save.
SwiftRec is completely free. No trial period, no paid tier, no watermark hiding your work. The source code is open, built on the proven Captura engine, and licensed under MIT.
You don't need to sign up, log in, or connect to the internet. Recording happens entirely on your machine. Your videos stay local in the Videos\SwiftRec folder until you move or delete them.
Windows Defender or SmartScreen might flag the app as new when you first run it. Click More Info, then Run Anyway — this is normal for unsigned portable apps and doesn't mean it's unsafe.
Yes. SwiftRec runs on Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11, as long as .NET Framework 4.7.2 is installed — which it is by default on both.
Yes. Pick the Window option from the toolbar, then click the window you want to capture. The recorder will follow that window as you move or resize it.
No. Running it from your user folder is enough. Admin mode is not required for normal screen and audio recording.
SwiftRec is a screen recorder, so video is always captured. But you can record a still region or a minimized window to keep the video file tiny while you capture audio.
Into the Videos\SwiftRec folder on your C: drive (or your default Videos location). The app has a built-in button to open that folder instantly.
